Short term disability terrible through Allstate/American heritage Life
I would not recommend getting a disability policy through this company. I filed my claim in October of 2015 and they constantly needed something else.
I cooperated with them. They first said I had to be working at the time of my disability, which I was. They stretched it out to February 2016 and then denied my claim because I continued to work 1 day a week. I was not suppose to be working under doctors orders but I had my premium I had to pay on this policy and MRI bills.
If they would have gave me my benefits I wouldn't be in worse shape medically or financially now! I guess I was not suppose to work for 5 months and lose my policy and ruin my credit. They will do anything to not pay your claim. The billing department sucks as well and messed up my auto draft and double charged one month and couldn't explain why.
If anyone is looking for disability insurance I strongly advise you to go somewhere else!! This company is TERRIBLE!!!
Reason of review: Fight claims so they don't have to pay.
Monetary Loss: $13000.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
Allstate Cons: Billing practices, Customer treatment, Paying off clams including rental.
Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina

I have this Insurance and filed a Claim back in 2014 with no problem six months after I secured this policy due to a fall. I met my 14 day waiting period and their payments were on time and directly deposited into my Bank Account.
As for my premiums, they were waived during the course of my disability. It is not bad customer service or a breach of their coverage because you decided to work one day a week.
People need to read the policies before purchasing as to what is covered and what is not. Every other insurance company works in the same manner.

All State has the worst hospital indemnity, I was hospitalized over a week ago and my claim is still under review. I'm going to ask my company to switch to Aflac.
They guarantee 1 day pay. Now my check is short $500 because I still haven't received funds by All State to coverage my hospital confinement
This is exactly how disability insurance works. You must be disabled and unable to work in order to qualify for benefits.
You must provide proof of disability and the documents requested. How quickly you provide that documentation determines how quickly coverage will be decided. Then you must meet the elimination period. That's the amount of time you must continuously be completely out of work.
You voided the elimination period because you decided to work, which is not allowed in order to qualify for the coverage. The premium payments would have been waived had you qualified for coverage.
It's exactly the same across the industry. The contract is very clear.
